The Ask

Wowd helps creators build careers through fan collaboration. The platform works like a game of telephone—a creator starts a piece, fans add their touches, and it can bounce back and forth. Each contributor's work is preserved as a layer, showing the journey of the collaboration.

The concept requires explanation. They wanted an animated onboarding flow that would be fun and bold, educating new users while capturing the platform's creative energy. Designer Nora Kako had mockups ready; we worked together to iron out details, fill in copy, and bring everything to life with animation.

We'd already been working with Wowd on bug fixes and features in their Flutter/Dart codebase, so we had familiarity with the platform.

The Process

Using Flutter's animation tooling, we built a five-stage onboarding carousel:

Welcome: Images of actual collaborations made on the platform fade in and scroll past, showcasing real work from real users.

Send a Request: A simplified version of the UI demonstrates how to choose a creator and send a collaboration request. A glowing button makes clear where to tap.

Create Together: An animated collaboration plays out—a fan submits a selfie (shown in purple), another fan adds drawings (shown in blue), then the creator comes in and signs it (shown in yellow). Each contributor is represented by a different color.

See the Journey: A projector-style interface shows the layers from the previous collaboration, demonstrating that fans don't just get a final image—they get to see (and share) how it was made.

Let's Go: A straightforward login/signup screen.

The Outcome

The onboarding communicates Wowd's unique concept through motion rather than text. Users can understand the platform in under a minute without reading lengthy explanations. All animations were implemented directly in Flutter, ready for deployment to iOS and Android.
