In commercial real estate, price comparisons (comps) are hard to come by. Unlike residential real estate with public MLS listings, commercial brokers have to be well-connected to share information—mostly done via email.
A commercial real estate broker saw an opportunity to build a platform making comp trading easier between brokers. He came to us through an accelerator with a vision and a PowerPoint presentation containing mocks he'd made himself. He needed an interactive prototype to bring to investor pitches.
Working with Liana Ris on project management, we set out to turn his PowerPoint concept into something VCs could actually experience.
The Process
The designs and interactive prototype were built in Figma. The client requested two demonstration videos: one showing how to explore and find comps, other brokers, and analytics; the other showing the process of trading comps with another broker.
The map is central to the app—it's where you find comps to trade, explore the landscape, and discover other brokers. We created several iterations for the map filtering interface: a drawer approach, a top bar, and a full-page search. We went with a bottom pull-out drawer, putting the most-used filters at the top where pulling up reveals all options.
Videos were edited in Adobe Premiere Pro to create polished walkthroughs for investor presentations.
The Outcome
About two years after we worked together, Broker2Broker secured funding and came out of stealth with a working product. The UX work contributed to that success.
